Water Colour Print

Water Colour Paper: We use Hahnemuhle William Turner water colour paper which is considered the best of its kind in the market. It is a thick water colour paper with a beautiful texture and luxurious weight that gives it an old world antique quality. William Turner is an artist grade acid-free cotton rag water colour paper especially suitable for reproductions of oil, water colour and pastel paintings. The image quality achieved is on par with canvas reproduction, but with a slightly silkier finish. It is engineered to give you the highest resolution and color saturation possible to truly delivers museum quality appearance.

The artist, Kanwar Singh Dhillon extensively reviewed proofs for each of his paintings on many fine art papers and compared the quality of image sharpness and the degree to which the subtlety of color gradation was achieved against the original art work.  This choice of paper ultimately produces the most favorable results.

Choosing a print size: When choosing a print size, please consider that a frame will add an additional 3 inches to all sides.  In the case of paper prints, where the option to add matting exists, this can be pushed to an additional 5 inches on all sides.  For example, a 22” x 31” water colour print with a typical 2 inch matting and a 3 inch frame will result in a framed print that will occupy 32”x39” area of wall space.

Permanence: Somerset Velvet Fine Art paper received a lightfast permanence rating of 62 years under glass and 128 years with UV filter, from the Wilhelm Imaging Research Institute.

Thickness: Heavyweight Stock – 19mil (250 gsm)

Finish: Velvet Matte finish

Giclee denotes a state-of-the-art printmaking process using high resolution digital scans, archival inks, and pH neutral fine art paper. Images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks onto canvas and water color paper with an image quality so high that the print looks like the artist’s original.  Giclee prints are considered the gold standard of the art print industry.

  • Very high-quality reproduction
  • Superb colour matching
  • Look and feel of original artwork
  • Perfectly reproduces subtle tones and graduations lost in standard print processes
  • Light fast – won’t fade or discolour

The Process: Giclee prints are created using professional 8-Color to 12-Color ink-jet printers. These specialty printers are capable of producing incredibly detailed prints for both the fine art and photographic markets.

The Quality: The quality of the giclee print rivals traditional silver-halide and gelatin printing processes and is commonly found in museums, art galleries, and photographic galleries.

The Market: Numerous examples of giclee prints can be found in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Chelsea Galleries. Recent auctions of giclee prints have fetched $10,800 for Annie Leibovitz, $9,600 for Chuck Close, and $22,800 for Wolfgang Tillmans (April 23/24 2004, Photographs, New York, Phillips de Pury & Company.)
